I considered getting a KFC 21-piece bucket 🍗, large mashed potato and gravy plus a large coleslaw, and a bottle of Coca-Cola for my last meal of the year. When I was younger, I could eat an entire KFC 21-piece bucket in one sitting, but I don’t think I could manage that now (but I like a challenge). I downloaded the KFC app in preparation, selected my local KFC store, and browsed the online pick-up-in-store menu. I even thought about it as I fell asleep last night. I’m surprised I didn’t dream about it like I sometimes dream about vanilla slices.
While showering this morning, I began to think about the greasy, tasty flavours and textures of the chicken, especially the thigh pieces. After stepping out of the shower and drying off, I contemplated the cooking process. At KFC, they use pressure cookers filled with chicken and oil. I assume they no longer use tallow or lard and instead opt for some sort of plant-based seed oil. Then, something clicked in my head, and the desire for the KFC meal faded away.
I chose my usual meal and cooked a steak 🥩 with some butter 🧈 . I didn’t use any plant-based seed oils while preparing it. The steak tasted delicious, and I feel good—much better than I might have felt if I had succumbed to the temptation of KFC.
If you’re going to celebrate the new year, have fun! Happy New Year!
